Morgan graduated last week with all the pomp and ceremony that comes with succeeding at studying hard at one of the top rated 2% Universities in the world.

Congratulations Morgan on graduating from your 3 Year Bachelor of Psychological Science degree at Flinders University!

It is a fantastic achievement given all your other roles you have taken on over that time.

TERRY CRISP ADDED RESPONSIBILTIES!

I have been involved in Chiropractic accreditation for twenty years with roles ranging from Site Evaluation Team Member, Accreditation Committee Member and Board Director to my current position as Chair of the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia. This Council accredits Chiropractic Educational Programs in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. I am currently serving as President of the Councils on Chiropractic Education International.

This Council has representatives from all the Chiropractic Accreditation Authorities throughout the world. Recently I have been elected as Chair of the Health Professions Accreditation Collaborative Forum, a group representing accreditation authorities for the fifteen registered health professions in Australia (Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Podiatry, Medical Radiation Practice, Chinese Medicine, Paramedicine, Optometry, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Occupational Therapy).

Although some components of the role are challenging and at times stressful, I enjoy the interaction and common purpose that comes with such a diverse group.

I continue as a registered and practicing Chiropractor as I feel that is necessary to maintain balance with the other activities. This decision is especially easy as the work culture, commitment and integrity of the Murray Valley Chiropractic Centre is among the best I have encountered.

PRENATAL EXERCISE: EMPOWING BOTH MUM AND BUB

Gone are the days when pregnancy meant sitting still and being overly cautious. Recent studies have shown that exercise is not only safe but highly beneficial for expectant mothers. At Move Pilates, we wholeheartedly support the idea that staying active during your pregnancy can lead to a healthier and happier journey for both mum and bub.

Benefits Galore

The advantages of maintaining an exercise routine throughout pregnancy are numerous. Not only can it help reduce back pain, but it can also enhance overall fitness, strengthen your heart and blood vessels, and contribute to improved mental health. These benefits extend not just to you but also to the little one growing inside you.

Safe and Supported

We understand that the safety of both you and your baby is paramount. That's why at Move Pilates, we follow the guidelines set forth by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) when supporting our prenatal and postpartum movers.

Our approach to prenatal exercise includes five key considerations:

  1. Avoiding Flat Back Lying: After 20 weeks, we provide wedges to ensure your comfort and safety during exercise.
  2. Minimising the Risk of Falls: As your pregnancy progresses, we'll guide you in making slight modifications to certain movements to reduce the risk of falling.
  3. Steering Clear of Holding Exercises: To prevent sudden drops in blood pressure, we recommend continuous, flowing movements rather than exercises that require prolonged holds.
  4. Staying Hydrated and Cool: While exercise naturally increases body temperature, it's crucial not to overheat. Rest when needed, and feel free to ask for a fan to keep comfortable.
  5. Prioritising Your Comfort: Your comfort is our priority. Our team is here to help you find movements that work for both you and your baby as you both grow.

So, if you're an expectant mum looking to embrace the benefits of prenatal exercise in a safe and supportive environment, we invite you to join us at Move Pilates, where all of our classes are prenatal and postnatal friendly. To further support your needs, we provide family-friendly classes 2 mornings a week with a free onsite nanny to watch your Bub so you can enjoy 45 minutes to yourself.

To get started, simply book a no-obligation 15-minute phone consult so we can learn more about you and determine your best pathway. Book a time
here!

Your journey to a healthier and happier pregnancy starts here.

TERRY CRISPS MID YEAR HONOUR - 26/08/2022

"Earlier this month I received the Emergency Service Medal in a ceremony at Bright in Northeast Victoria. The medal was awarded for my participation as Captain of the Mount Hotham Dinner Plain Fire Brigade in the 2019/2020 bushfires. The campaign in the Mount Hotham Dinner Plain area lasted 6 weeks with fires on several fronts threatening homes and infrastructure."

Dr Crisp wishes to pass on his thanks to the staff and patients of the Murray Valley Chiropractic Centre for their support and understanding during his time away at the fires and in particular Dr Klemm for allowing such employment flexibility.

The Murray Valley Chiropractic Centre family wants to congratulate Dr Crisp on all his hard work, this is well deserved.

WELCOMING DON McCLEARY - 04/07/2022

I graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic after moving to United States of America in 1978 from home in the Sunraysia District of Victoria. My wife Robyn along with our toddler Aimee enjoyed this academic adventure; well-supported by wonderful student friends. After graduation in 1983, an opportunity arose to move my family now including baby Kenneth to begin my chiropractic career in Murray Valley Chiropractic Centre.

After two years I moved my family including son Daniel born in Murray Bridge to begin sole practice in Mooloolaba, Queensland. We enjoyed the opportunities to meet and help clients and in our free time to get outdoors to explore and camp in Queensland. We practiced there for four years – and welcomed another baby boy Patrick.

After realizing we were too far from families in Victoria and South Australia we moved back down ‘south’ to create a new chiropractic clinic in Happy Valley, SA.

Being born and bred in Mildura, Victoria this suited my goals and ambitions; as well as getting back connected to the Murray River. Here we spend time camping and fishing with our family, friends and grandchildren.

In 2006 our four children were of age and we relocated to Casterton, Victoria to look after my wife Robyn’s ageing family. While practicing part-time in Casterton; I rekindled my other passion – driving trucks up and down the Eastern seaboard!

At various times Robyn and I would travel to Kununurra, East Kimberley region WA where I operated the Ord Valley Chiropractic Services and was involved in doing Musculo-Skeletal Assessments for mine workers and civil operators. To this day I haven’t come across a Chiropractor who was moonlighting as a Road Train Operator; I fell into the role and enjoyed every minute of it. On the UHF radio channel I would often receive a radio call: “Is that you Doc?”

Now back in Adelaide, the opportunity has arisen to get back to my ‘roots’ and work at Murray Valley Chiropractic Centre for my colleague Dr Brenton Klemm. I have always loved what I can do for all ages of clients and take pride in my ability to care for people and their health.

Now in my practice for 40 years and with no intention of stopping as long as I can help clients; I will be doing that.

I look forward to my tenure here and may even run into people I have met when I was first here in 1984.

FOODBANK DONATIONS - 22/12/2021

In December we asked patients and staff to donation non-perishable foods, along with personal care items for Foodbank. Over the three weeks of having the box in the clinic we were able to it generously just in time for Christmas.

Foodbank is Australia's largest food relief organisation which supports front line charities that are feeding vulnerable Australian. Foodbank is now providing more then 70%of the food relief organisation nationwide.

We choose the organisation as Foodbank is new to Murray Bridge and we support and appreciate the work the organisation foes for our community.

A massive thank you to each of the patients that donated any items, you are the reason we were able to assist Foodbank at the important time of year.

IMPROMPTU CELEBRATIONS - 02/10/2021

This weeks blog is all about celebration! A tradition in the centre is to bake a cake for another staff member and sing Happy Birthday and share a piece of cake at morning tea, and Brenton organises beautiful flowers from Country Blooms Florist.

Well we did that for Fiona .... Not realising it was a milestone birthday, which we chiropractic assistants like to mark with a touch more fanfare!

So a bit of scrambling on my account and we organised a special impromptu dinner at Bombay Beat, which most of the staff were able to attend and enjoy sharing a few drinks and pooled entree and mains to share.

Please join us in wishing Fiona a very Happy 50th Birthday!

ITS PRUNING TIME! -19/08/2021

Yes, its that’s time of the year again that we get stuck into pruning the clinic roses. Not a year goes by that I don’t sit on a cold day in the middle of the roses, armed with all manner of pruning weapons and ask the question, ‘why am I doing this?” But within a few weeks the fruits of my labor become apparent when I see the fresh new leaves followed shortly by stunning blooms, right on cue for the Murray Bridge Show weekend.

The truth is, pruning of the roses is the easy part. The full accolades & credit must go to Maree and Neville Klemm (Brenton’s Parents) who for the past 20+ years (I think it’s been that long?) have dead headed, weeded and fertilized the roses. This constant care has been the secret of success for the stunning display of roses throughout the years.

I owe my pruning education to Ted Hameister a local nurseryman (at Cootamundra Nursery) for many years & Ken Wells, gardening and local pruning expert. Both spent time with me many years ago passing on their rose pruning knowledge which gave me the confidence and skills to tackle such a large pruning year after year.

For those of you that often wonder the names of the roses, here they are in planting order, starting from the climbers on the fence, facing First Street:

Crepuscule – Climbing/rambling rose

Apricot Nectar – Floribunda Rose

Jubilee 150 - Floribunda Rose

Just Joey – Hybrid Tea Rose

Spirit Of Peace – Bush Rose (Right side of entrance and Carpark)

Each year I find one species of rose a struggle to prune or they are harder to ‘read’ when pruning. This year it was the Just Joey for some reason. There were lots of briars and some of the bushes didn’t produce new growth to select when pruning. But I just prune them confidently knowing that they will keep producing a great display next season despite this year’s struggle.

These roses have been through a lot over the years. Unfortunately, we have had two car accidents on this corner over the years with cars ending up in the rose beds and building on one occasion. Thank fully no one was seriously injured and the roses received an extra hard prune that year and bounced right back as if nothing had happened!

The Murray Valley Chiropractic Clinic is the proud sponsor of the Murray Bridge Garden Club, displaying the Rose Competition Winners perpetual trophy in the corridor of the Clinic. So next time you are in, check out the winners’ trophies displayed on the wall.

So once the pruning is over and done with and I sit back admiring my handywork, I wonder if I can persuade Brenton to give me an adjustment, massage, glass of wine and cook dinner!! (But I think I may be pushing it!!)

INSIGHT TO ANDY AND HIS DRY NEEDLING - 14/07/2021

My name is Andy Yong Kim, I have been practicing at the Murray Valley Chiropractic Centre since January of 2019 and have been really enjoying my time here. I have been a practicing chiropractor for 5 years now but for 9 years I have been completing dry needling treatments on my patients.

I became a chiropractor as in the year 2000 as I had my first chiropractic treatment and left feeling such a good relief for my neck and lower back, this prompted my passion to become a Chiropractor.

Dry needling is an pain free procedure into the skin and muscle. Dry needling is directed at myofascial trigger points, which are defined as “hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscles that are associated with a hypersensitive knot in the muscle”.

Myofascial pain syndromes are a large and diverse group of painful conditions that occur in the musculoskeletal system. These syndromes affect muscles and their connective tissues attachments in any part of the body and therefore, named according to the location of the painful part such as lateral epicondylitis, Achilles tendonitis, frozen shoulder and low back pain.

Musculoskeletal disorders such as tendinitis, epicondylitis of elbow, stain and stain injuries and low back pain caused by acute or chronic mechanical strain (overload) of the muscle in

which it occurs. Dry needling may provide relief for some muscular pain and stiffness.

I have found that dry needling is very beneficial to assist with the chiropractic treatment that I offer.

A SACK OF WHEAT -30/06/2021

Our small A Sack Of Wheat business started when Brenton and I asked ourselves the question “What product can we provide for our patients that is both functional and useful with a strong local footprint?”.

A Sack Of Wheat is a heat therapy wheat bag, created using 2 layers of fabric. The inner cotton pocket holds 800gm of wheat with the outer layer showcasing a fantastic design from one of our collections.

My working life started as a hairdresser and after years of standing on my feet and being married to a Chiropractor for over 30 years, I’ve had my fair share of conversations about pain and what can assist with its relief. So, we decided to create A Sack of Wheat in 2019. To be honest, it not only allowed me to scratch my creative itch but presented an opportunity to utilize a local resource, creating a product to naturally assist with pain relief.

As we travelled, we used this time to indulge my passion to search for beautiful fabrics. Just prior to Covid 19, we spent time in Hong Kong where I found stunning linen fabrics, and while in Bali, I was able to experience the process of creating bespoke fabric from the initial design process through to printing onto raw fabric to make it my own! We hope these somewhat ‘out of the ordinary’ details make A Sack of Wheat unique and something a bit different that people would like to own.

Being true locals, we are proud to have formed a connection with farmers from Colrae Seeds in Callington using their sustainably grown wheat. I am so grateful it only takes one phone call, and I can go out to the farm door and collect a new bag of wheat, while supporting a local business of the Murraylands. This is one of the many reasons we love living in this region.

Now as you walk into our Clinic, we would love you to take the time to have a closer look of our hand made & unique A Sack Of Wheat products.

MY WEEK OFF! - 15/04/2021

At the end of March I joined a team up at Mintaro, near Clare, to learn some of the old restoration skills working on Martindale Hall. The team consisted of skilled stone masons and trade persons wanting to share their knowledge and to allow us to learn from the experts.

It was a week of climbing scaffolds, repairing the old lath and plaster ceilings, sanding and painting the front of building windows and doors, lime washing the cellar walls and repointing the block work.

Martindale Hall was built in 1879, with 32 rooms and a large cellar of 7 rooms.

With an old ruin that I am hoping to conserve, I joined this team to learn some of the old traditional lime mortaring techniques.

The week was very busy and certainly made me feel my age, but I feel more confident in tackling my project!

I have been very lucky to have been asked to join the next group up in the Gawler Ranges working on an old lime stone barn restoration on the Pondanna Outstation, which will focus more on the lime mortar technology.

My thanks to Keith McAllister of Heritage Stone Restoration for the opportunity!

DR TERRY'S MID YEAR 'HOLIDAY' - 03/03/2021

Thank you for taking the time to allow me to introduce myself and some of my interests outside my career as a Chiropractor.

In 2010, after spending 22 years at Loxton in the Riverland of SA, my wife and I decided to have a change of lifestyle. We moved to live at the Alpine Ski Resort of Mount Hotham in Victoria. During this time, we both became involved with the local fire brigade. After holding several positions, two years ago I was elected Captain, and this remains a passion for me.

Every year over the winter months of June, July, August and September I return to work in that capacity at Mount Hotham. The population during the ski season can reach seven thousand in the resort and neighbouring town of Dinner Plain and requires the presence of an urban brigade.

Duties during this time consist of House and Lodge fires, chimney fires and Motor Vehicle accidents.

Bush fires are not as common as it is a mild and wet climate, however we were impacted by the event in January 2020, and at times such as that I return to the mountain for the duration of the event.

It is not all hard work as this allows us to indulge in our lifelong passion of skiing.

Murray Bridge and Mount Hotham is a good mix as it allows time in the snow and time with our five grandchildren in Adelaide.

It has been great to work at the Murray Valley Chiropractic Centre and I appreciate the opportunity to be absent each winter!
